Thanks in advance for leaving any donations Philip. Introduction This is an attempt to list the hardware IDs of all Dell Wireless Cards alongside their latest driver. In the past particularly with Windows 7 Microsoft failed to keep Windows Installation Media Up to Date. This meant enviably one would install Microsoft Windows with newer hardware and as a consequence devices such as the Wireless Card were not recognised after a subsequent clean installation. Moreover for each Dell model, Dell usually have a difference in Wireless Card usually depending on region and customisation. Often one would get confused with regards to what Wireless Driver to Install.
The correct variant can be identified by using its Hardware ID c.f. With Windows 10 I’m glad to say Microsoft have decided to follow my (and many others) advice on keeping Windows Installation Media Up to Date.
They have partnered with major OEMs such as Intel, Atheros and Broadcom to make sure Windows 10 has inbuilt drivers for most wireless cards. As a consequence Microsoft will likely have native driver support for your Wireless Card. They may also download a newer driver automatically from Windows Update. In some cases OEMs may have newer drivers than Microsoft which may lead to some enhancements/patch issues. Unfortunately Dell do not Update their Drivers and Downloads by using Hardware IDs and handle drivers on a model by model basis. Moreover they do not provide hardware IDs on their Drivers and Downloads page (some other OEMs have the edge on Dell here). The aim of the page is to list the lastest drivers by hardware IDs so you can identify your wireless card and install said latest driver.
Download drivers for Broadcom DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card Wi-Fi devices (Windows 10 x64), or install DriverPack Solution software for automatic driver download and update. Tech Tip: If you are having trouble deciding which is the right driver, try the Driver Update Utility for Broadcom DW1501. It is a software utility that will find the right driver for you - automatically. DriverGuide maintains an extensive archive of Windows drivers available for free download. We employ a team from around the world.
Note in some cases I may list an official Dell driver slightly newer version than Dell offer on their Drivers and Downloads Page How is this possible? As business support is superior to home support, a Latitude model may have a driver update and an Inspiron model released at the same time will not In both models the Dell Wireless Card may be the same and the updated driver may lead to some fixes.
In other cases a newer Latitude model may have a newer Dell Wireless Card with a newer driver but this driver may support multiple Dell Wireless Cards including previous generation hardware. Note I am an individual so do not have all the Hardware to test so please leave feedback in the comments sections if you test things and of course let me know if you find newer drivers. Recommended Prequisites Prerequisites before installing a wireless driver:. → → →. →. →. Failure to install the above prerequisites before the wireless driver may result in impaired functionality.

Without this driver Windows 10 may not come out of sleep properly. There are 4 main vendors of Wireless Cards sold in Dell Systems.
See the notes applicable to each major vendor regarding driver updates and then if applicable see the specific notes for your wireless card. There may also be some rebranded Dell Wireless 350 and 360. These are obsolete as Toshiba provide no new drivers for Windows 8.1 or 10 and should be replaced by a Broadcom Dell Wireless 355 or Bluetooth USB dongle.
Notes on Upgrading Wireless Card Look to your Dell Service Manual and determine your wireless card type. There are four types of wireless card form factor. In general:. Brand new systems will have a M.2 slot. Systems manufactured in 2010-2015 will have a Half Height PCIe (PCI express) slot:. System manufactured in the period 2005-2010 will have a Mini PCIe (PCI express) slot.
Most of these wireless cards will work natively with Windows 10 however in some cases there are minor issues leading to frequent disconnects. You may want to consider installing a slightly newer wireless card using a. If upgrading I recommend an Intel Wireless Card due to the best driver support see this for more details about some affordable Intel Wireless Cards. I do not recommend a Broadcom card as there are a greater number of driver issues reported with Broadcom Wireless Cards and Windows 10. It is also possible to use a Wireless USB dongle which saves you from opening up your laptop (however utilises a USB port). Systems manufactured in the period 2000-2005 will have a Mini PCI slot (all these systems should be retired as their hardware specifications are poor and cannot run a modern operation system): Atheros There is an increasing demand for more frequent driver updates and OEMs such as Dell do not update the drivers as often as the direct vendor. There is an which lists the latest Atheros Wireless Card Drivers which has got extremely popular.
The unofficial drivers may not support Dell Wireless Cards in all cases. The latest Dell Atheros drivers I can find are listed below. The ones in bold will work for most of the Atheros cards. Later versions not tested with all the cards please leave feedback.
